How to prepare a server list for a fast offer

The faster we can identify what you have, the faster we can reply. A few details make the difference.

Use exact part numbers

Model names are a start, but part numbers let us match your equipment to current demand. If you have labels or a configuration report, copy the numbers from there.

Give quantities and condition

Tell us how many units you have, and whether they are new, pulled from working systems, tested or untested.

Describe complete servers

List the CPU, memory, drives and any add-in cards such as network adapters or GPUs. A configuration export is ideal.

Add your location

City and state help us plan pickup or shipping.

What to do before you decommission servers

Retiring servers goes more smoothly with a little preparation. Here is a simple checklist.

Back up what you need

Confirm that workloads have moved and that data you need is stored elsewhere.

Handle your data

Decide how data on drives will be wiped or destroyed, and tell any buyer what has been done. Follow your own company’s security policy.

Take inventory

Record models, serial numbers and configurations before equipment is removed. It makes pricing and tracking much easier.

Plan the logistics

Think about who will de-rack the equipment, how it will be packed and where it will go.

Selling laptops and desktops in bulk

Corporate refreshes often leave a large number of laptops and desktops to move. A clear description helps.

List the models

Include brand, model and generation, along with processor, memory and storage.

Note the condition

Mention cosmetic condition, whether batteries and chargers are included, and any known faults.

Check for locks

Devices locked to an account, management profile or BIOS password are harder to resell. Tell us up front if any are locked.

Clear the data

Let us know whether storage has been wiped.
